Multiple Teams · Coach’s Weekly Aug 19

Hey Lakers,

Welcome to the 2019 season.  Each Sunday I will be sending out a program wide communication regarding upcoming events for the week and review/highlight anything from the past week.  As we’re in the beginning of the season there is quite a lot going on so please read to make sure you know what all is going on for Laker Volleyball.
Last Week:
After tryouts we had a great time at the beach playing some games including an all program sand volleyball tournament, while it was a close tournament the coaches took the overall win (Go coaches!).  Friday we had our first practices and the Ice Cream Social.  For those that missed the Social, I have attached the player expectation that was handed out and all other information can be found on our team site:  One of the big pieces of the meeting is to make sure that all families sign up for their volunteer opportunities for concessions and officiating.
This Week:
*Middle School Tryouts-
Tomorrow, Aug 19, Middle school tryouts will be for all volleyballers at Lake Harriet and Anthony entering grades 7 and 8 at Southwest High School in the West Gym from 10:30am-12:30pm.  Coach Lorna and Robbie will be there to welcome and give a good trial for our 5th squad!
*Jefferson Scrimmages-
All 4 high school teams will have scrimmages at Jefferson on Tuesday, Aug 20.  Varsity and JV will be in the morning with a bus scheduled to leave SW @7:15am (back around noon) and 10 and 9A in the afternoon with a bus scheduled @2:15pm (back around 6pm).  Players DO NOT WEAR JERSEYS, but instead wear a Purple shirt. We have not yet received confirmation we have a bus to bring us so please be flexible as we may need to arrange parents to carpool in case transportation falls through While this season we’re hoping for the best in our busing, we just want to be prepared in case it falls along the lines of years past.
*Team Pictures-
ALL Players are expected to be at SW in full Uniform with BOTH color jerseys @3:15, for photos beginning at 3:30.  Meet in the courtyard if it’s nice out, the commons if it’s not. The plan is to have 9A and 10 take their two team photos first, then as soon as they were done do an all program photo let them go practice, have JV get their team photo after the program wide one, since they will have already practiced in the morning they’d be able to leave after as well, and lastly have Varsity go then head to practice. These are the photos that will be used for home game programs so please make your best effort to attend.
*Car Wash-
The Car Wash Fundraiser will be a week from today on Sunday August 25th at Lake Harriet Methodist Church from 1-5pm.  Tomorrow, we will be handing out 10 tickets for each player to presell and making sure all players have signed up for their shifts to help.  Anyone who sells all their 10 tickets will receive a SW Volleyball hoodie.  In addition, for every 10 tickets a player sells they will have their name entered in a raffle for 2 $25 gift certificates and the programs top seller will receive a $50 gift certificate!
*Parent Officiating Clinics-
To make sure that all parents don’t have to get the on the fly training for officiating Rhonda Gingrich (booster president) and Robbie Brink (head coach) will be holding 2 days where parents are encouraged to attend to learn how to officiate during this seasons home games.  The two nights are Thursday Aug 22 and next Monday Aug 26 at 7pm.
